Upon moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico from Los Angeles in 2006, Brent formed Indieproduction, LLC to foster independent productions and has expanded his focus to include short films, commercials and non-fiction pieces. THE PERFORMERSEva Encinias, Program & Project DirectorAfter studying flamenco in Spain and Mexico with numerous artists, Ms. Encinias Sandoval began studying several forms of dance at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, including Modern, Jazz, Tap, and African dance. As a choreographer, she has created more then 30 diverse, original works. From 1970 to 1989 she directed her own performing company, Ritmo Flamenco. In 1976, Ms. Encinias Sandoval joined the UNM Dance Program where she soon developed the only flamenco undergraduate and graduate degree program in the U.S. In 1986, Ms. Encinias Sandoval founded the annual Festival Flamenco Internacional, the largest and most comprehensive flamenco festival outside Spain, an event recognized for its authenticity and creative significance by Spanish flamenco artists. In line with her dedication to disseminating flamenco to New Mexico communities, Ms. Encinias Sandoval founded the National Institute of Flamenco (NIF) in 1986.This non-profit organization preserves the art and culture of flamenco through many avenues. In 1999, Ms. Encinias Sandoval co-founded the Conservatory of Flamenco Arts, the educational branch of NIF. Ms. Encinias Sandoval has received numerous awards for excellence in the arts as an educator, presenter and performer.Joaquin Encinias, Artistic DirectorBorn into one of the few flamenco families in America, Encinias learned flamenco as a way of life from his grandmother Clarita and mother Eva Encinias. He began his first lessons in flamenco from his grandmother, Clarita, and joined her performance company at age five, and became a soloist in his mother's company at age 12. Encinias has worked closely with world-renowned artists including Antonio Canales, Eva La Yerbabuena, Los Farrucos and Manolete. In 1999, he worked with director Debbie Allen in the production Soul Possessed, which premiered at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. He has also been a featured soloist in Festival Flamenco Internacional de Albuquerque. In 1999 The Conservatory of Flamenco Arts opened under the direction of Encinias, his mother Eva, and sister Marisol. Since that time Encinias has copy-written his unique methodology, the only codified and copy-written flamenco teaching methodology in the United States. As Artistic Director of Yjastros: The American Flamenco Repertory Company, Encinias has amassed a repertory of over fifteen pieces of original flamenco choreography from some of the most influential flamenco artists in the world. Encinias vision for Yjastros is to preserve the beauty of traditional flamenco while imbuing it with a unique American aesthetic and energy. As Artistic Director of Yjastros, Encinias has been able to redefine flamenco choreography by truly understanding flamenco movement, having an innovative and visionary use of space and demonstrating profound fluency in flamenco musical composition. Encinias has begun a new generation of artistry though his innovation and dedication to the art form. Today, he is one of the most highly soughtafter flamenco artists and instructors in the nation because of his unique exposition of technique and craft. His musical talent and deep understanding of the language of flamenco make him an exceptional and valuable instructor and choreographer. Marisol EnciniasAs a fourth-generation flamenco dancer, Marisol is one of the few American flamenco dancers raised in a flamenco family. Her artistic interpretation, stunning in its depth and purity, arises from Marisols immersion in the art form throughout her childhood. She has been an instructor for the National Institute of Flamenco since 1990 and became a member of the University of New Mexico dance faculty in 2000. With Yjastros, Encinias joins the structured improvisation of traditional flamenco and the mosaic quality of the American style repertory company.
